As a recent graduate of The University of Edinburgh’s Bachelor of Arts with Honours Degree in Fashion, I have experience in both the creative and technical aspects of the fashion industry. From pattern cutting, garment construction and illustration to garment costing and specification, I am equipped with every skill required to professionally research, design and manufacture apparel. Always curious and driven, I am also experienced with less traditional practices including laser cutting, machine knitting and the research and creation of bio-fabric.

Research & Response

The collection is first and foremost inspired by the film Farewell my Concubine (1993). The film is set in the context of China in the 1920s onwards. The film portrays gender in a beautifully ambiguous and fluid way, inspiring me to examine the traditional notions of gender in Chinese culture, its embrace of the ambiguity and fluidity, contrary to common belief. ‍

Connect

The Shadow Puppet I am extremely interested in Chinese shadow puppets for its delicate details, translucent material and physical sturdiness it possesses. I hope to create a fabric that imitates the translucent leather visual properties, but softer. ‍

Refine & Resolve

My study of trench coats, for I’m fascinated by its beautiful detailing and a silhouette that has lots of potential. Folding, collapsing, manipulating the shape taken from the opera mask has inspired me further. I am now looking into new shapes such as kites, for its beautiful sense of dynamic movement.
