I am a Fashion Design and Textiles graduate from LASALLE College of the Arts, where I majored in creative pattern cutting with a keen interest in traditional textiles. All my projects have one similar goal - have a good story to tell and to act as a conversation starter. My final year project was a tribute to my home state, Assam, India and its silk handloom industry. Riha celebrates the handloom industry of Assam and empower the weavers. This collection uses different types of hand woven silks - Muga, Eri and Kesa Paat. Muga and Eri are unique to the state and also one of the most precious silks. Muga is also called the golden thread as it is naturally very lustrous and golden in colour. Eri is also known as the peace silk because no silkworms are killed in the making process. The collection explores digital printing on Kesa Paat with photographs of sunsets and sunlight reflections captured in Assam and also experimentations with dying Muga with natural dyes.
