Homeland

'Homeland’ is a poetic nod to Singapore’s nature and heritage landscapes reimagined in the 14th-century Fort Canning Hill. The collection is approached as storytelling from my walks in Fort Canning Hill into garments that play with the poetic notions of water transparency in digital prints and textures of architecture lingering in memories. It incorporates leftovers/off-cuts from one look into another, reflecting additional design detail. ‘Homeland’ explores geometric shapes as the primary silhouette, inspired by the style of architecture in the pattern-cutting process. The collection leftovers are repurposed into fabric strips which are hand-knotted as accessory pieces such as bags, using braiding, macramé, and crochet techniques.
